Student journalist interviews President Barack Obama on education

Published by skwguitar at 3:09 am under American Politics Edit This

Caught this on Politico. Cool little video here, 10 year-old Florida student reporter Damon Weaver made a trip to the White House to give a lengthy and hard-hitting interview with President Barack Obama on the topic of education.

Alright I’m kidding about the hard-hitting, but this was one very clever and well put together P.R. move.

Weaver mixed humor with some substance in his 11 question interview (which was mostly about education). The moment that stuck out with me the most though was when Damon asked Obama what it was like to be president.

“It’s very exciting. It’s a lot of work. There’s time’s when you get a little worn down, but every day you have the possibility, the ability of helping other people,” Obama replied, “And if you can do that, then that’s a great, great thing.”

Now this was a fairly easy softball question for Obama, but the moment still stuck with me. Here we have Damon Weaver, a little black boy, asking the President of the United States of America what it’s like to be commander in chief, knowing that he lives in a country where one day he too could be President.

Now that’s change you can believe in.

Weaver has had his fair share of high-profile interviews already, from Vice President Joe Biden, Miami Heat star Dwayne Wade, even LL Cool J. Not too shabby for a kid who hasn’t even entered the sixth grade yet. A big congratulations and a round of applause go out to Damon Weaver for doing a spectacular job with this interview.

Brilliant retort Mad Dog. Thanks guitarman for providing us with an interesting story about something other than the ever-increasing partisan attacks. How does this little gut get access to these celebs? (Serious question)

I don’t know, but he’s had even more interviews than the ones I listed. I guess he got real famous when he asked Joe Biden to be his homeboy lol… since then he’s had a number of high-profile interviews.
