The Fourth of July
A holiday that can inspire all sorts of emotions from all sorts of people across our country. Today I wanted to look at one group in specific though….
Tea-Baggers! Yes, Independence Day, what better time could there be for those oh-so misunderstood Republicants to get together for a Tea Party and complain about things they clearly don’t understand.
This Fourth of July was a rally point for many of these tea-baggers, gathering together to “celebrate freedom” and “protest the government” among other things I guess.
Oh yeah and to hold up senseless signs like this one out of an Orlando Tea Party.
TeaPartyDay.com, a self-proclaimed Official Tax Day Tea Party site, offers this beautiful gem of a bullet-list on their site (bullet Points in bold).
Are you fed up with a Congress and a president who:
* Vote for a $500 billion tax bill without even reading it? Alright, I’ll give it to you, extorted numbers but a valid point.
* Are spending trillions of borrowed dollars, leaving a debt our great-grandchildren will be paying? Once again a valid point, but it’s been far too long since the Republican party has made fiscal conservatism a priority.
* Consistently give special interest groups billions of dollars in earmarks to help get themselves re-elected? Oh no here we go with earmarks again. You know what’s wrong with complaining about earmarks? It’s one of the only ways we can see where our government is spending its money. Everything should be earmarked if you ask me, but whatever, go ahead and complain about the 1% of spending that earmarks made up in the stimulus.
… something’s wrong they haven’t brought up the s-word yet…
* Want to take your wealth and redistribute it to others? Yep there it is, right on cue. You know I wonder if they really understand what socialism is. Where was this complaining when George W. Bush increased the welfare state more than any other president?
The rest of the list goes on to detail the usual mixed bag of G.O.P. talking points and hypocritical accusations such as abortion, government controlled healthcare and a laughable bullet point about selling U.S. debt to China.
I guess I’m being a little harsh on these Tea Party attendants but it kind of strikes a nerve with me. If America is so obviously not in tune with the message you are pushing, why do you keep pushing it? The worst part is that they are taking a worthy argument — pushing for more fiscal responsibility from our government — and trashing it by throwing in their other usual garbage.
Because the bottom line is that American people want solutions, not just senseless complaining, and it’s all too easy to see what is happening at the majority of these Fox News sponsored events.
What’s this though? An Audit the Federal Reserve Tea Party? Now that’s something I could get on board with.

you and me both are tired of the whining - my blog was kinda based on these same sentiments. I just don’t get it - the attitudes of the people and I have a stalker now that leaves crazy comments on my blogs because she has become obsessed with my words - it is crazy to me!!!!
@guitarman-The problem I have with these baggers is their lack of knowledge of topics they pretend to be so very passionate about. Many of the “key Points” do not even affect them but they’re not aware of that.
I have noted in prior posts that I abhor fanaticism of any sort. What fuels that fire is that these groups are incapable of proposing alternative financial approaches and ignoring their own sordid history (neo-cons). Where was their outrage when Reagan/Bush magically turned a $750 billion deficit into a $4 trillion one? Baby Bush actually turned a surplus into a huge deficit. Selective memories and ignorance of your cause do not make for an effective movement. Nice post.
Hey SKW, I’m glad to see you back with a post! While my family was driving off to our 4th of July festivities here in the ridiculously liberal San Francisco Bay Area, we saw some signs and thought “Oh, it must be Code Pink or somebody,” but as we got closer, we realized it was a group of teabaggers. My wife wouldn’t let me roll down my window and yell at them or even give them the finger, but just the sight of them enraged me. I have nothing against people exercising their free speech. What riles me up are that these whiny assholes only have a problem with government spending when it’s a democrat in office and when Fox News tells them to go out and protest. And they wear their complete ignorance of real issues on their sleeves. I also have a pretty big problem with them taking on the trappings of the American Revolution when our founding fathers put their lives on the line for a whole lot more than just bitching and moaning that they don’t like paying taxes now that their guy lost the election.
