The situation in Israel brings to light just how complicated the Middle East situation is. Were things this bad eight years ago? In all honesty I was too young and American at the time to judge properly. Regardless, I consider the United States lucky after having George W. Bush at the helm for eight years and that we only provoked two wars in the region under his rule.
