Oh what to talk about today… Let’s start with this!

Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, a southern Florida republican congresswoman apparently hung up on president-elect Barack Obama. Twice. Click the link for the story.

In other news, the Iraqi’s three-member president’s council gave its approval of the status of forces agreement between the U.S. and Iraq. The council’s approval was the last step in ratifying the agreement.

The approval came one week after the Iraqi parliament signed off on the deal. Many times it looked like this deal would not get through, bogged down on both sides with intense negotiations.

Under the deal, U.S. combat forces will withdraw from Iraqi cities by June 30 and the entire country by Jan. 1, 2012. Iraq will also take many steps towards controlling its own sovereignty.

“Today is a remarkable achievement for both of our countries,” said Dana Perino, White House press secretary. President Bush is expected to give a written statement later today as well.

So, roughly nine years after “Mission Accomplished” we’ll be forced out because we really haven’t accomplished much more than establishing a new breeding ground for terrorism? Sweet.

Did you check out Marijuana Nation on the Nat-Geo channel the other night? Some decent stuff.

Has anyone noticed how President Bush is ramping up speeches these days and trying to redefine the justification for the war? According to Bush, we went over to Iraq to free the Iraqi people, not because of specious Hussein/Al Qaeda ties and weapons of mass destruction, and to make Middle East safer and more secure. How can he even state the second “success” with a straight face? Perino and Bush’s rhetoric aside, I truly hope that some semblance of peace can come to the Iraqi people and that we won’t be needed there beyond that date.
