John McCain does not equal more of the same?
In an interesting note, at least according to McCain’s campaign manager, George W. Bush will not be invited on the campaign trail. This is a smart move for McCain as any distance between himself and the Bush administration will help more than hurt.
McCain addressed the nation for almost an hour on Thursday to wrap up the Republican National Convention. His speech focused primarily on change, which seems to be a pretty popular word in politics at the moment. McCain argued that he is an actual agent of change, and that for Obama it’s just a word that works well in speeches.
“We were elected to change Washington and we let Washington change us,” said McCain in an obvious slam on the current administration. “We lost the trust of the American people when some Republicans gave into the temptations of corruption… I will reach out my hand to anyone to help me get this country moving again.”
My take? Neither convention surprised me and neither one went as in depth on the issues as I’d hoped. I’d give Obama a slight advantage coming out of the week, but nothing is definite yet.
So what’s next now that both Conventions are wrapped up? Look for both candidates to hit the campaign trails running. Any mistakes at this point from either candidate could decide the election. Also expect to see a spike in the amount of ads you see on television. With 600 million dollars collectively between the two candidates (200 million for McCain, 400 million for Obama) there’s going to be a lot of tv-time up for grabs.
Oh and about that Sarah Palin? A lot of focus is going to be on her in the next couple weeks, should be pretty interesting to see what facts come to light about the Alaskan governor.
